As a person of faith and organizer, there are times when I’m called on to offer a few words. Others in this line of work and life may relate. This afternoon was one of those instances. As I was dropping off some supplies to a friend who’s getting married, she asked if I would be able to offer a greeting and say a few words at the Kurdish community’s press conference in front of Nashville’s city hall. The Kurdish community, like other communities across the country, are being targeted by ICE. As a person of faith, I join in solidarity with my siblings who are experiencing harassment and made to live in fear in their city; their homes.
Always have a word ready to share. You don’t know when you’ll be invited to speak.
